Welcome to Looped Run Coaching – one-to-one personal run coaching for endurance athletes by Howard Calvert.
I’m a UESCA-certified ultrarunning coach, 2.29 marathoner (aged 47) and England Masters athlete who’s written for a range of running publications.
Ageing doesn’t mean the end of personal bests – I can help you stay fast and strong over distance as you get older.
I build bespoke and adaptable training plans that evolve around your busy life, getting you to your marathon or ultramarathon start line physically and mentally prepared, wherever you are in the world.
Based on your experience, goals, life and targets, I’ll motivate you through every stride including the race itself, helping you close the loop – until the next race…

Athlete testimonials
“I felt really well guided and looked after throughout the training for London Marathon. Understanding the work/children/life balance was really helpful and reassured me when things didn't go to plan. I knew I could ask him anything and it was a safe space. It also helped knowing he’s done far bigger races as it kept it in perspective and I knew it was manageable. I felt calm on marathon day and ready, which I knew was in part due to all his preparation. I couldn't have asked for more. I’d highly recommend him!” Penny, Aberdeen
“From the outset, I knew that Howard had my back. His experience needed little introduction, but it quickly became clear during our first meeting just how exceptional he was. His ability to connect and truly understand everything – from my running history and general fitness, to my motivations, personal life, training‑time constraints, and even my fears – was remarkable. I knew immediately that I was in the safest possible hands and his support throughout, and up to race day was invaluable.” Johnny, Hampshire
Welcome to Looped
My name’s Howard. I’m a runner based in Hampshire, England, with two children, a ginger dog and a ginger beard.
Life is busy. But I can show you it’s possible to achieve more than you imagined by devising a training plan that evolves around your schedule.
How?
I’m a runner with 25 years’ experience under my (running) belt.
In my twenties, I ran 3.30 in the marathon.
In 2025, I ran 2.32, aged 46.
I’ve completed 15+ marathons and ultramarathons ranging from 50km to 100 miles, and can help you tackle your own ultra challenge, whether it’s your first or 50th by showing you how to run a marathon or ultra, whether you’re a front, middle or back-of-the-pack runner.

This is a good question, after all running is the most natural movement there is. But if you feel like you’re stuck in a rut, not progressing, doing all your runs at the same pace or intimidated by a race you want to enter, a coach may be able to help you achieve these goals.
-
AI-generated training plans have their place, and can be useful for certain runners. But they aren’t flexible, don’t take into account family and work commitments, offer no motivation or accountability, and aren’t there to pick you up during hard times or celebrate your triumphs. This is where Looped Run Coaching can transform your training, with constant communication and feedback on your progress.
-
Research other running coaches, and look at what you would like from a running coach. Some will give you a training plan and leave you to it – I offer higher levels of communication, feedback and training plan adjustment.

Like all coaching services, it can vary. Generic training plans can be cheap and offer a template to follow. But they are inflexible, unmotivating and don’t assess load as you train. I offer significantly more to help you build towards your event. I have experience, qualifications and expertise that make me a unique proposition to help you achieve your goals and regularly analyse, adapt and provide feedback on your progress.

The best way is to speak to a few –have an initial interview, ask them questions, see if they’re on your wavelength and can help you achieve your goals. Arrange a chat with me and we can go through how Looped Run Coaching works and see if you think it’s right for you – simply fill out the enquiry form at the bottom of the page and I will get back to you asap.
